Man Spends Twenty-One
Years On Hold
How long is "too long to be on hold?"
21 seconds? 21 minutes? One man, Ralph Davis, can lay
claim to having been on hold for longer than most -
21 years, in fact!
OK, perhaps that's taking a small
liberty with the definition, but Ralph is the Director
of On Hold Pty Ltd - owner of On Hold Messages and Sold
On Hold - and he's been with the business since it commenced
in Sydney twenty-one years ago.
Twenty-one years is a long time in
this business, where upstarts seem to come and go in
the blink of an eye - yes, there is substantial competition
out there; but few have been trading consistently, reliably
and without significant staff change for such a long
time.
Sold On Hold, one of Australia's original
'on hold message' businesses, was started by Donn Trent
in 1988. That same year, Ralph had just completed a
professional voiceover course with the Max Rowley Media
Academy. He was already working as the Traffic Reporter
on Sydney radio station 2KY when he started doing voiceovers
for Sold On Hold.
Moving forward to 2000, and having
worked in various roles in the business since its beginnings,
Ralph was the obvious choice to take over the helm when
Donn decided to sell.
After all this time, Ralph is still
involved in the day to day running of the business and
in the words of Maxwell Smart... "and loving it!"
